I am tired of renting, how do I decide the best time to buy a home?

You decide by your own needs, abilities and timetable. Is your job and lifestyle stable enough that you expect to stay in one area for the next year or two? Do you have decent credit and some savings/financial reserves? Are there choices for you within your housing goals and family needs?

Then, the next question is: How do I make a good choice? Sit down with a good agent who will review your “wish list” for housing and discuss your current and future financial situations and how to achieve the goals you desire.
“Where, what, how and when” questions are vital. Most people shop first and think later. I believe it’s important to think first. And don’t just listen to the media…today’s market is no worse or no better than other times. Buyers just have a special advantage today with low interest rates and a variety of homes in various areas to chose from.

I described some of these ideas in a recent discussion with my son, called “Podcast #1: My Mom Makes Me Breakfast and Teaches Me About Real Estate.”
